Music

Music is a vitally important part of the worship experience at St. Peter’s. All are enriched by participating in and being inspired by vocal and instrumental music. At St. Peter’s we are proud to offer music representative of the Anglican Choral Tradition, where the best is selected from many periods, cultures and languages.

Choir

The Parish Choir includes four professional section leaders who enrich the worship of the congregation by offering choral music at the 10:00 AM service and on special occasions. From September through June, choir rehearsals are held on Sunday mornings at 8:30 AM before the 10:00 AM Service.

There are also opportunities for those who may be not able to make a regular commitment to singing, but are able to join us for special services on holidays and other occasions, as well as for special musical events. Rehearsals are scheduled as needed.

Music (and recordings, where available) will be provided in advance via Dropbox.

Instrumental Music

The 10:00 AM Sunday service includes both organ and piano music, as well as instrumental music before and after the service and on special occasions, especially at Christmas and Easter services. Performers of all ages and abilities are encouraged to offer their music during our worship.

If you have any questions regarding the St. Peter’s music program, or wish to participate as a singer or instrumentalist, please contact the Director of Music, Robert DeRegis.

Director of Music

  • Director of Music - Bobby DeRegis

Church music has been part of Bobby DeRegis’ life from a very early age when he was recruited as a boy soprano at St. John the Evangelist Church in Syracuse, NY. He loved to sing, but watching the organist at work was his inspiration to study the instrument. Feeling the bass notes resonate through the floor of the choir and seeing the huge gold pipes gleaming overhead was the best experience of the service. He began to formally study organ in high school with David Enos, a cradle Episcopalian whose training began in St. Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral in Syracuse. Bobby is an alumnus of Syracuse University with a Bachelor of Arts. During his graduate studies at Boston University, Bobby served in several churches in the greater Boston area including Catholic, Christian Science, Congregational, Presbyterian ,and Unitarian/Universalist denominations. A member of the American Guild of Organists, he recently served on the Boston Chapter’s Executive Committee. He served at the Congregational Church of Needham as music director and organist for eight years, and then served as interim music director at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Jamaica Plain, and as substitute organist at Grace Episcopal Church in Newton Corner. Bobby feels quite at home in the Episcopal church, and is looking forward to serving St. Peter’s during this time of transition. Living in Everett and working in Lexington, he enjoys spending many late evenings practicing the organ. If you should see lights on in the church very late, don’t worry — most likely it is just Bobby!
