Robert DeRegis (He/Him/His)
Church music has been part of Bobby DeRegis’ life from a very early age when he was recruited as a boy soprano at St. John the Evangelist Church in Syracuse, NY. He loved to sing, but watching the organist at work was his inspiration to study the instrument. Feeling the bass notes resonate through the floor of the choir and seeing the huge gold pipes gleaming overhead was the best experience of the service. He began to formally study organ in high school with David Enos, a cradle Episcopalian whose training began in St. Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral in Syracuse. Bobby is an alumnus of Syracuse University with a Bachelor of Arts. During his graduate studies at Boston University, Bobby served in several churches in the greater Boston area including Catholic, Christian Science, Congregational, Presbyterian ,and Unitarian/Universalist denominations. A member of the American Guild of Organists, he recently served on the Boston Chapter’s Executive Committee. He served at the Congregational Church of Needham as music director and organist for eight years, and then served as interim music director at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Jamaica Plain, and as substitute organist at Grace Episcopal Church in Newton Corner. Bobby feels quite at home in the Episcopal church, and is looking forward to serving St. Peter’s during this time of transition. Living in Everett and working in Lexington, he enjoys spending many late evenings practicing the organ. If you should see lights on in the church very late, don’t worry — most likely it is just Bobby!
